New Movies to Crave: You'll Need The Help to Get Through 30 Minutes or Less of Final Destination 5

I kid! I kid because I love! Anyway - summer is on the downward spiral now - all your blockbusters have had their chance, and now we're left with the final gasp before the school year rears its head once more.

1) I'm only giving the edge to 30 Minutes or Less because the first time Ruben Fleischer and Jesse Eisenberg joined forces, it was for the dead-on entertaining Zombieland. A post-Social Network Eisenberg looks to once again play the straight-man in hilarious circumstances as he's forced to rob a bank after having a bomb strapped to his chest. Along for the ride are Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson amongst others. While the previews don't make this look like the pinnacle of comedy, it looks more entertaining than, say, Zookeeper.

2) The Help could swing either way, depending on if the target audience shows up. One thing is for certain, the cast certainly looks like a home run: Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Cicely Tyson, Sissy Spacek, Octavia Spencer and Allison Janney all bring their considerable talent to bear. The subject matter is sure to inspire lively debate. It matters if it can pull off the drama without the stereotypes.

3) Finally, a series I though was finally over comes back for another round of gruesome deaths. Final Destination 5 once again has a lucky group of people escaping death (this time the collapse of a suspension bridge) only to find out they're not so lucky when death catches up with them. I do have to say, the inventiveness of the deaths looks interesting: laser eye surgery, acupuncture and rusty screw and balance beam - intriguing to say the least, but not interesting enough for me to rush out and see this. If it does well enough, look for the sixth entry next year.

4) I'm relentlessly harped upon for watching Glee. What can I say - I like the music (and Jane Lynch). But I draw the line at concert movies. Glee: The 3D Concert Movie is there for the hardcore "gleeks" who devour every thing Glee inspires. Good for them - I'll let them have it and enjoy my weekly fix. I have a feeling Justin Bieber and Michael Jackson need not fear for their records.

It should be interesting to see if Rise of the Planet of the Apes can hold off the new lineup. I'll be seeing it tonight myself - so maybe the apes can rise once again. I'll have the final tally Sunday.
