I like the part where she falls over.

OK, on a serious note...

‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?’ is a compelling true story that's both hilarious yet heartbreaking. The biggest giveaway I got when the movie ended - you can find the irony and humor in the darkest of outcomes.

I’m not the biggest fan of Melissa McCarthy, if I have to be honest. I don’t find her funny and ‘Happytime Murders’ left a cold impression on me. Ironically, I wanted some sort of apology after that. Still, nothing agains...

Dodgy production values, cheesy dialogue, and bad effects plague this fantasy movie.

Blockers  Add to movie list
Rating of: 3/4

Mike A - wrote on 11/20/18

Blockers -- the story of 3 loving but insane and emotional parents who follow their daughters around on prom night to try to stop them from losing their virginity -- is one of the finest, funniest comedies to be released in 2019. It's the camradery between the 3 parents, played wonderfully by John Cena, Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz, that really make this film and give it the energy, charm, wackiness and genuine hilarity that it has.

Given a subject with so much depth and breadth, a more balanced action and narration could have sealed the deal. I felt like the impact became minimal because of being too technical. But overall, still a good watch.

I'm not opposed to all found-footage movies, but the premise of this one would have been far better served by a more traditional horror style. It could have been brooding, creepy, and visually evocative instead of jumpy and shouty. Best thing about this movie remains the poster.

All this fuss about some water.

All right, I need you to loosen the guy up.
He’s old, all right?
Do not kill him.

The only thing I wondered afterward was “Why for God sake was this movie made?“. I’m not saying that this was the most horrible film of the year. Or the most superfluous release ever. There were some positive things in it. And in a certain way, it was sometimes far from bad even. But in the end, it was only a simplistic storyline and little to nothing innovative. The only thing that stayed with me is that you...

Blindspotting  Add to movie list
Rating of: 3/4

Chris Kavan - wrote on 11/14/18

Open Your Eyes

Blindspotting is a very contemporary film that touches on a lot of real, raw subjects but keeps things grounded by approaching the subjects through the eyes of Collin (Daveed Diggs), who is just coming off a two-month prison stint and is nearly done with his probation period. With just three days left to go, his world is thrown into turmoil when he witnesses and unprovoked police shooting by Officer Molina (Ethan Embry).

The world of Blindspotting takes place in Oakland, California and surro...

An extremely elegant film that beautifully depicts the first love of a precocious young man. Timothee Chalamet is hypnotic in the lead as he injects hundreds of lively mannerisms and tics into this role. He has surely cemented his status as a sex symbol for years to comes. Unfortunately, though Armie Hammer is also charming as the love interest, he doesn't quite convince as a man in his early twenties, which makes the romance seem a bit more predatory than it actually is. Still, the chemistry s...
